Okay it’s a long complicated story. So I’ll keep it as simple is possible.
We don’t know the identity of my husband’s grandfather.
We only have the last name Hyams because his dad changed his name after aging out of the children’s homes in London, and based it on who his mother said was his biological father.
We got his first piece of evidence that we are connected biologically to any Hyams’ at all with the Ancestry DNA test through a match an estimated 2-3rd cousin who’s grandmother is a Hyams. *There were no direct Hyams’ as matches but could be attributed to them just not having taken a dna test.
168 cMs is a bit high for a third cousin match and suggests that 2nd cousins 1x removed is most likely and slightly less likely is 1/2 first cousin.
I’m not having any luck figuring out who is the most likely person to be his grandfather by working backwards 3 generations.
I have someone who fits some of the criteria but would make him a third cousin. So I’m not sure if it’s correct based on the cM match
I’ve been able to isolate his Jewish Heritage (though low) comes through his dads paternal line because his mother has tested as well as members of his paternal grandmothers line. The only hint to any Jewish ancestry comes from his dad as well as our last name now that we’ve finally established a likelihood that our name is legitimate.
I compared his Jewish ethnicity with the predicted second cousin who has 1% and he has 4%. It’s my understanding that would suggest that his heritage would be traced back to a third great grandparent in that scenario.
Would the three percent difference in Jewish ethnicity lower the chance that they are second cousins and increase the likelihood that they are at the very least third cousins?
If that’s the case his second or third great grandfather (depending on who his grandfather his) would be Phillip Hyams who fathered Hyman Hyams, Solomon Hyams, and Abraham Hyams as well as an Albert Hyams (which is the name in question regarding his bio grandfather)
**side note his dad wants nothing to do with this and will not take a test.
