Suppose that 1 or more people decide to build the first sentient AI (assuming that this is possible and that they succeed).
They buy a bunch of hardware, write the necessary code, etc.
The AI is now running and has demonstrated (somehow) that it is sentient and rational and so on.
Who now owns the hardware that the AI is running on?
It seems to me that there are two possibilities, either:
1. The developers of the AI still own the hardware, or
2. By creating the sentient AI the developers have necessarily transferred ownership of the hardware it runs on to that AI, i.e., the AI now owns the hardware.
