I just subscribed to this subreddit. I understand a lot of us have technical skills, and one of the best ways to ensure long-term freedom is to ensure "the internet" can never be monopolized.
As the various governments slip towards totalitarianism, this kind of thing may become increasingly important - and having the knowledge of communication amongst advocates of freedom might be a MAJOR advantage.
