Something interesting over at r/Permaculture
Post Body

I post this here with the caveat that it is not my intent to promote drama, but rather point out and interesting social phenomenon.

For those who don't know, Permaculture is essentially a community of individuals that uses alternative techniques for growing food, and generally seek to do so in a way that causes the least damage, and in many cases, actually repairs environmental damage. It is even economically viable in my opinion, promotes self-sufficiency, and might be of interest to Voluntarists / Anarcho-Capitalists.

Paul Wheaton is a big name within that community as it exists today. He has countless interesting videos and as much to promote Permaculture and the community. He also owns Permies.com, which in many ways is a central hub for Permaculture.

Interestingly enough, a few months ago, he put forth an idea for a community, where he would be the benevolent dictator (link). I wish I could find the reddit-discussion of that, but at the time I noted that it seemed he had totalitarian tendencies, and despite his other good work, pursuing this would likely lead to disasters.

Fast foward, and I noticed this thread today. Interestingly enough, in an instant, Paul Wheaton is revolted against. Perhaps the reaction is a bit strong, and a slight mob-mentality, but nonetheless the aspect of "revolt" I find to be fascinating and relevant to dissolving other forms of arbitrary or destructive "authority."

Again, I recommend staying out of the drama, but rather examining this from a perspective of what can be learned.

P.S. I'm half asleep while writing this, so hopefully my writing isn't too horrible.
