I am very concerned about Adam Kokesh's proposal to march on DC with a minimum of 1000 armed men/women. I have two main concerns and several minor concerns:
1) Regardless of outcome, this could result in Kokesh losing his status as a red-pill vender. That is, Kokesh currently is dispensing the truth about government, or at least as close as he has come to it. Morpheus served a similar function in the Matrix: he was well aware of the Matrix, but didn't know everything about the Matrix, because he didn't need to. Telling people that there is an alternative to government and that the government system is a lie is the function of Kokesh. If Kokesh goes through with this march, his career as a Red-pill vender may be jeapordized. When the Black Panthers pulled a similar stunt in California by marching around the California capital with rifles, two things happened: the Kalifornia State legislature decided that blacks shouldn't have guns; and the non-violent protestors, such as MLK, started looking like the good guys. MLK is praised; the Black Panthers are laughed at or treated as extremists whose positions are not worth mentioning. We'd be lucky if Kokesh's march only convinced Congress that the NRA are the good guys regarding guns. I doubt Congress will give up such an opportunity to ban them some guns.
2) Those involved may be harmed by Feds, whether during the march or afterwards. Its like protesting an anti-rape march while holding a sign that says, "Rape is awesome. I live at [legit home address here]. I go to bed at 10pm every night. Please take a picture of me for identification purposes later," but with a gun instead of a sign and the most powerful government on the planet instead of an anti-rape march. All who go on this march and survive should expect to be followed to some degree by the FBI, especially Kokesh and his colleagues. If you have ever interacted with Kokesh's Facebook page, stop doing so from now on, unless you like the thought that your posts and likes might be included in a searchable database in Langley, Virginia. Of course, this assumes that the march doesn't become a Death March, in which the National Guard are called in to stop the march and the FBI agent disguised amongst the 1000 shoots first. Expect a Federal agent to be in the 1000 who march; letting a potential crisis go to waste is not in the style of the US Federal government.
Do I oppose Kokesh's March on DC for ethical reasons? No, because the march is supposed to be non-violent.
I do however oppose the march on strategic, tactical, political, humanitarian, moral, and ettiquette grounds:
Strategy: Your building a metahorical golden bridge with which the metahorical enemy will cross to surround you and slay you, or at least give you a hard time for some time thereafter. See the anti-rape-protest analogy above.
Tactics: Your placing yourself in the middle of the most heavily guarded city on the continent. There will be so many angles of attack, whether from buildings or avenues. If the National Guard gets involved, then they will use the layout of DC to quickly surround Kokesh et. al. Fortunately, driving tanks around DC is not likely, so at least they won't have to worry about mobile artillery. Drone strikes on the other hand... well, that would be ironic.
Political: Kokesh will be labeled as a terrorist, a consiracy theorist, a whack-job, an extreme right-wing nationalist (you laugh now), a gun-toting bible-thumbing nut-job, and an anarchist (now you can laugh). Whomever labels themselves a voluntarist, anarcho-capitalist, or libertarian will be demonized for, "being a Kokesh wannabe". I am not sure if I am exaggirating the extent of shit this march could cause, just politically.
Humanitarian: If any innocents are harmed during the march as a result of violence, then Kokesh will have lost all creditibility in my mind as any sort of person who cares about the well-being of innocent individuals. Even if Kokesh can't stop any unjust harm, he can at least stop the march and avoid such accidental harm.
Moral: Watch the movie Gran Torino...now. Watch it again, if you already have. How did the end go? [fuck you and your spoiler alerts] Walt walked over to the gang-bangers's house with no gun. They drew their guns, expecting Walt to try to shoot them like he said he would do. As far as the gang-bangers were concerned, their lives were in danger. Walt acts like he is drawing a gun, and they shoot him before he can shoot any of them. In my book, even the antagonists can defend themselves when the protagonist commits aggression or a threat of aggression against them. What Walt did was at best immoral. Kokesh has planned to do something similar: he is going to be bringing men and guns into a highly volatile environment, in which the antagonists are ready, willing, and able to infiltrate the march and cause pointless bloodshed. Walt should have stayed home and Kokesh should stay home; both to remain as non-aggressive red-pill venders. Walt for Thao; Kokesh for those who are new to libertarianism.
Etiquette: If you're going to conduct this sort of march, at least require that everyone dress up in suits and dresses. No drag or cross-dressing unless the clothing is very well-fitted, please. If you're gonna go around doing something dangerous, at least look good while doing it. Bonus points for dressing like politicians.
One final note: I expect that Kokesh will attempt to stream the march, while many in the 1000 will be recording and taking pictures. This is probably the only way that the event could go without any violence taking place. That being said, it is entirely plausible that the DC government and/or Feds will orchestrate a blackout of cell-phone coverage wherever Kokesh goes, in which case all bets are off and Kokesh is probably fucked.
