I am not sure if some of you people are aware of the situation many tourists and locals are facing at Cancun.
Trying to be brief, for decades the taxicab that is organized on a syndicate ruled over the place, charging even up to 20x the authorized fares, and even more if you are tourist.
Then government declared Uber legal in the state, this did not sit well with the taxi driver, who are now basically terrorizing anyone who they think are used Uber.
It is not uncommon that a bunch of taxis will follow and then block their way of suspected Ubers, they demand people to proof they are not Ubers by showing evidence, and if they think it is Uber they will basically force tourist to get out of the car and use a taxi and beat the car driver.
So think is if this is happening even with a supposed state with security, what could prevent something similar happening without state. I.E. a mob forcing you to use their services, and preventing competition by force.
