Had some film rip whilst rewinding my Olympus OM10, anyone know why that might be?

Not the best picture I know but I was rewinding my OM10 after using it for the first time.

As you can see most of the film rewound as normal, and then it stopped. So assuming it’d fully rewound I opened the back and still felt film (this was in a dark room). So I closed the back, tried a bit too forcefully to rewind and felt it go free. So I opened it again the rest of the canister was okay but I’d accidentally ripped the film off the end of the spool.

So obviously easy answer - I forced it a bit too far hoping it’d budge not break. But does anyone know why it might’ve gotten stuck in the first place? Is it just a case of taking that last bit of film out & rewinding by hand or would that not work?

Open to any suggestions - It was a test roll, first time using that camera and indeed using an SLR so I may have gone wrong loading it somewhere idk.
