Taking your camera to events

I’m asking specifically because I’m going to a Washington Capitals game, and I don’t know how well Capital One Arena will like my canon A-1. I put my 50mm on it, so it doesn’t look too much like a sports photography setup. What’s your experience with getting into arena’s and events with security checks with your gear?
