I think probably the number of people on this sub in AO relationships (or Anal Mostly) is a very small fraction of the total. I'm one of the rest of us — someone who increasingly longs for a partner who shares my need for intimacy based around butt sex. It's weird to write that out, but it's true. Many of us who have partners get this itch scratched only occasionally. And we know that relationships are based on more than just sexual compatibility...but they can be a good hint at potential harmony outside the bedroom. Anyway, I'm just wondering how many of us would actually go for it if we met the right person, or if it's more of a hot fantasy for people with a certain kink.
Despite the diversity of sexual preferences, I think that sexual compatibility with a partner and especially a good dialogue on these subjects is essential. However, I think there is a limit beyond what is acceptable (which I wouldn't know what it is) that can become something toxic in your relationships.
For myself, I wouldn't be able to continue in a relationship without anal sex (and it's not even for the physical pleasure itself), because I would inevitably associate refusal with some notion of lack of trust, intimacy and commitment from the partner. I honestly can't even imagine this situation, it would certainly be terrible for my full sexual satisfaction and consequently the relationship health. Luckily I hit the lottery and found a gorgeous woman who likes anal sex even more than me. I think I should be grateful for that every day.
Still, even though I had found a rare gem of a wife, our anal-based sexual relationship was years in the making. I truly believe that a couple can develop this arrangement.
