Had an original AF that healed well, using diltiazem 2% ointment. About a year later (last week) it reopened. The pain during the reopen was so intense, and I had to travel for work that I ran to the ER, to see if they had anything they could give me to get through this trip.
2 days later I am back home and had a BM, which was soft but set in motion the worst pain I had experienced. Nothing was helping the pain or getting it under control. Not a bath, none of the ointments I had, at this point I had the dilitazem as well as a numbing jelly that I received during my first visit for my trip. I passed out during the pain and came to on my couch in a drench of sweat.
I arrived back at the ER, dripping in sweat and unable to hide or control my pain, I couldn’t sit, I couldn’t do anything, the pain was unbearable. During my weigh in and vitals I started getting tunnel vision and went back but caught myself. The way I looked and how much pain I was in because of an AF, I thought for sure they thought I was there just to score pain meds.
Lucky my second trip I revived a very knowledgeable doctor who had experienced AF, as well as a nurse who had an AF after giving birth. They took pity on me and gave me morphine while they did an internal exam and a CT scan to ensure no other problems were causing this pain.
Everything seemed fine, they were able to prescribe me pain meds along with Colace. I understand that they make people constipated but with the pain I was in, it was no longer an option.
The reason for writing this is because a lot of people will tell you not to go to the ER, probably because a lot of trips end up like my first one. But if you are in enough pain and with the right doctor, it can be such a game changer. This doctor and nurse helped me so much I couldn’t thank them enough.
I consider myself very good with pain. I have had pancreatitis, broken bones, separated ligaments, torn MCL, ACL. Thrown out my back. But this might of took the cake. You would think just a tear would be manageable but I hit my limit of pain. Very glad I went to the ER, if this helps someone who is having unbearable pain look past the negative reviews of going to the ER and gets it under control then I have accomplished my goal.
Happy healing to all!
