Hey guys So I have my fiber modem installed in a very poor location and wiring is not possible so I decided to use power line adapters (pla), so my plan is to use pla with an extra router and not get the mesh extenders as I want it to be wired as PLA works well in my current house(lucky). The problem I am having is that my setup: first pla by modem, second pla downstairs which is setup with my isp details, and I would like to add a 3rd pla upstairs with another amplifi router and wondering if it would work. I know I may lack some understanding but do I have to buy another pair of PLA and connect to the lan port of my main amplifi to one and reach the other amplifi as an extender or would 3 PLAβs work. Oh and my pla only has one Ethernet. Thanks
My experience with PLA's has been mixed. I too had an issue where could not get wiring in due to damaged conduit in the concrete walls. The first issue was the PLA link would not cross power circuits. The second issue was the PLA would not work with power strips and would only work directly into the wall socket. I also thought you could just keep adding PLAs and they would join as a group, but alas not, they were only point to point.
This led me to have a janky setup of pairs of links and cheap hubs to bring together and hop around. I also had several WiFi extenders which was also flakey.
When I moved villa I ditched all that and got amplifi, it works flawlessly now. I have the main router and 5 mesh points in a large concrete villa and gave whole house coverage and outdoor pool area.
I would go with additional mesh points over adding in addition types of hardware.
