Loss of SSID and should remote mesh units be surge protected?
Post Body

I work for a property management company on the SC Coast.

Based on the reviews on Amazon, we purchased and installed an Amplifi HD system for a large rental property that took a massive lightning hit recently. All TV's and networking equipment, including the dishwasher, got whacked.

The base unit is plugged into a surge protector. However, the two remote mesh units are not.

Do they need to be protected also?

Also, one day after installation, the system quit broadcasting its SSID.

This required a site visit to power cycle the main unit and run the Amplifi app with Bluetooth turned on to get the SSID to reappear.

Needless to say, this wasn't a welcomed development so soon after implementation.

I've got a call into Ubiquity support to discuss these issues, but thought I'd throw them out here too. Thanks!

On our rental we have 3ph supply and during a storm lost the neutral, the neutral wire disconnected from the supply overhead cables, one of our mesh points power base fronts blew clean off, as well as killing 2 Sonos speakers, the alarm system, the electric gates, Xbox power brick, Dyson power adapter, apple phone charger, spot light lens cap was also ejected in a rather spectacular fashion. In addition to this around 10mcbs tripped.

For the duration of the event all the lights were surging from low to extremely bright, the main TV didn't know what it was doing I was running round like a mad man shutting things off and disconnecting things while was trying to work out what the hell was going on.

The first thing something was up was the lights surging, after around 30s the apple phone charger started plopping and fizzing and thats when all hell started breaking loose...

I'm glad I was at home and it wasn't just the wife and kids, because they wouldn't have had a clue and probably wouldn't have shut off various circuits or run around disconnecting things.

Despite all the things that failed, I think we got off lightly!
