I am an individual and have the Business Platinum even though I am just a consumer and I use this for personal purchases. (There was a time when the Biz card had a lower fee than the Personal card, and I've just kept it for years.)
So I bought something for the $200 credit - well BEWARE when you are buying anything from Dell - their return policy is incredibly obnoxious.
Dell will provide return shipping labels at no cost to you and will not charge a re-stocking fee if:
the product you are returning is defective.
you have to return a product because Dell made an error.
you are a consumer who purchased for personal use.
For all other permitted returns, Dell may charge a re-stocking fee of 15%
Without realizing this policy existed, I bought something and absentmindedly clicked "Business" on the radio button in the checkout page. They actually ask you, is this purchase for "Business" or "Personal". In order to return something without a fee, you HAVE to choose "Personal" on the first step of checkout.
Such a ridiculous policy, as any business could just label all of their purchases "Personal", like what is the point? But now that I have initiated a return - for a home smart thermostat that is obviously a personal use item - not paying attention to the radio button during checkout is coming back to haunt me. I am in an endless loop of hostile, stubborn, pencil-pushing foreign call center employees who are refusing to fix it and allow a free return.
But they CAN. They ABSOLUTELY have the discretion to do it - because I actually had 2 orders and made the same "Business" choice on both orders - and for my other item - someone at Dell happily changed the status and let me return for free without any complaint or pushback. So, YMMV, and it's not that they can't fix it - it's just that some people feel like being stubborn and refuse to help.
Really makes me despise Dell and if not for this credit I would never buy anything from them.
