Downgrade Plat to Amex

I see similar questions answered before but this is a unique question that cane in my mind. I opened Amex Plat and I am thinking of opening Gold in like 6 months and then downgrade my Plat into Gold is that even possible for my plat to just merge into Gold cuz I think I can keep Gold long term vs having Plat and also rack up the sign on bonus points for gold and by downgrading I can also make sure my credit score doesn’t get a hit from closing an account. Thanks
