One thing I don’t understand about red tide

Maybe it’s obvious, but I’m rewatching it now for the second time and I still don’t understand one thing:

If you’re talented, the pill will increase your talent in inspiration strongly, but the price you pay for that is the thirst for blood (because, as the chemist explained, the pill drains some important vitamins or so from your blood, hence the thirst). They can stop taking the pill at any time, their thirst for blood will stop and so will the rush of inspiration.

If you’re not talented, it will turn you into one of the pale ones. The pale ones don’t get any more pills from either the chemist or other talented people, why won’t their thirst for blood stop? I’d understand why their appearance and anger still exists, but there is no explanation why they keep killing to drink other peoples blood? Did i miss something?
