hi! My partner & I are moving to his home country of Chile next month. We're married, and I plan to apply for residency/visa through marriage, so getting sponsorship for a visa is not my concern.

I have a job offer from a US company. They do not have offices in Chile or anything, and the job would ideally be hybrid, but they've made it clear that my specific role can 100% be remote.

My (hopeful) employer is concerned about having to pay $$$ if I'm a legal resident in another country. However, I feel like since the position can be 100% remote, and I have a US bank account and a US residency, does it really matter if I'm not physically in the US?

And, can I still apply for legal residency in Chile, and keep my US residency?

I want to be clear that this is specifically a question of legal residency, not citizenship. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you <3
