EDIT: more digging confirms that I need to apply for an exemption... wish me luck!
Hello AmazonSeller,
I am the manufacturer of a beauty product. We import the raw product and package it ourselves under our own brand and trademark.
I am not sure what I am supposed to do for the product ID requirement on Amazon. We don't have a barcode, or an SKU, or anything like that. Is the product ID something like a "business category" for state business licenses where you can go find a big catalogue of product IDs and pick the one that suits your product the closest? Or is a product ID specifically tied to a specific product from a specific brand?
Digging around on seller support I see that "Beauty" as a category requires a product ID for large brands, and that private labels may apply for an exemption.
However, when trying to list our product, the closest match that I could find falls under: "Health & Household -> Personal care -> Skin Care -> Body -> Moisturizers -> Oils"
However, the Amazon Seller Support page that lists product ID requirements by category doesn't have "Health & Household" listed, it does have, "Health & Personal Care" listed, and the requirements are identical to "Beauty".
In this case, do I apply for an exemption? And if so, does anyone have an idea of how time and effort intensive this process is? Is it somewhat straightforward or does this mean another month delay to proceed?
Thanks for all your help!
