Iâve been doing traffic control here and there for the last couple months and I was told to not be anywhere over the yellow one line that separates the drive area and the warehouse floor when vans were pulling in. Today safety walked by and gave me a nasty look while I was waiting for my vans to pull in. An AM came over and let me know safety had come over and complained I wasnât âinvolved enoughâ he told me to make sure drivers werenât opening their back hatch before I released them which was fair. But his main point and what Iâm most concerned/confused about, was he told me to stand 20 feet in front of the vans to guide them into their parking spots for loading and not off to the side.
Now my question, why is standing to the side of moving vehicles a concern but theyâd rather me stand directly in front of the undertrained newbies of the week who are driving something bigger than a Kia soul for the first time. The vans arenât going to skeet sideways and splatter my insides on the ground. They sure as sht might if Iâm to stand in front of them. I watch these iditâs hit poles inside the building on a normal basis.
Is this actually policy or can I report this up the chain?
