Review of the Bip S and comparison against the OG Bip
Post Body

I made an album of photos for those who want to see the two watches side by side (og Bip on the left, Bip S on right) https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1KC916CIkrFZ6Kl9E16pk9f5biYVtp0NG

This new Bip S is definitely an upgrade over the previous Bip but not everything is perfect, you’ll see what I mean if you keep reading. I apologize in advance for any kind of typos you might find but I’m not native English speaker, Enjoy.

🔶 Build Construction: the Bip S is almost identical to the previous Bip except for a new button shape on the side and an improved heart rate sensor on the back, the strap now is much better because the previous strap used to fade, this new one is made out of a different material and it will not have such problem (in the pics the old faded strap is not shown because I changed it a while ago)

🔶 Screen: the screen size is the same, I wish it was a bit bigger this time, same resolution but improved colors even though you won’t notice it quite much, the backlight has improved a lot, on the OG Bip the backlight made the screen blueish while the new light doesn’t change how you view the colors (the black now is black while previously it looked purple, see album photo) One thing that got worse is the visibility under direct sunlight, the OG Bip was much more visible while the new Bip s catches more reflections or something and the result is that now I miss the old Bip under this aspect, sigh..

🔶 Sensors and interface: the new heart rate sensor is improved, it’s quicker and more accurate, note that there’s no blood oxygen saturation sensor or spO2 rating of some sort, be advised. The gps is quicker and it should be more accurate, I haven’t been able to test it. With the new 5atm water resistance you can also go swim with it and track your training, it was not possible with the OG Bip because it was just ip68 water resistant. The new interface now has widgets that you can see if you swipe left right from the main screen, I personally just have the status widget and the weather one (don’t trust too much the weather because it’s pretty inaccurate, at least for me) When you swipe down you have 4 quick toggles, one for the do not disturb (which can also be automatic when you fall asleep, super useful for me) a toggle to block the touchscreen (super useful when you take a shower), a toggle to increase and decrease the brightness of the backlight and finally a shortcut for the music controls (which was missing on the OG bip). If you swipe up you can see the notifications, which are written with a tiny font that doesn't even support emojis, I hate this and I miss my custom bold font that I've applied on my OG Bip, you can't change the font on the new Bip S (for now). Note that when you cancel a notification from the phone it will disappear from the watch too, I find it annoying but someone might like it. When you press the side button you access into the apps list where you can find all the things you need: alarm clock, timer, heart rate, activities, status, compass, world clocks, music controls, PAI, weather and settings.

🔶 Customization: into the watch there are a few watchfaces and two are customizable, but i don't like them much. Into the Zepp app there are a lot more faces and some of them are nice. You can also find more faces made by other people into the website amazfitwatchfaces.com (I used to make nice watchfaces for the original Bip, you can find them if you search my name Oulgold into the Bip section of the website hehe) An annoying problem I've found is that the old bip's faces are not completely compatible for the new Bip S even if they should be, they are glitchy and some icons are not displayed, if someone else has this problem let me know, I hope I'm not the only one.

🔶 Miscellaneous: I've turned off the heart rate sensor but occasionally it measures it nonetheless I don't know why, I had this problem with the OG Bip as well though. I turned off the measuring for when I sleep as well but it measured the heart rate anyways as you can see from the screenshots attached. The step counter seems accurate. I can't express an opinion about the battery life quite yet but it should last at least three weeks with my usage, I have a few alarm clocks on and notifications on; note that I've turned off the heart rate sensor, if you turn it on the battery should last less, maybe around two weeks which is still a very good result. Into the Zepp app there's also a native integration with the fitness app Strava and It's very nice for runners and cyclists like me.

🔶 Final thoughts: I paid the new Bip s 60€ which is the same price I spent for the OG Bip two years ago, my bip is not broken or anything I just bought the new one out of curiosity for my birthday, I will not sell or throw away my old bip but I'll keep it if something goes wrong with the new one and even though I preferred the old screen because it is more visible I think the new Bip has a better quality to price ratio and it offers a lot of things for the price you pay. So far I give to the new Bip S a 7/10. I will eventually update this review, maybe. I will answer questions too if you have any, just comment down below. If you appreciate this comparison give me an upvote, it's free ;)
