What am I doing wrong????

I shoot on a Canon R5 body with a Sigma 150-600 lens. The birds were no more than 40 feet away. Why can’t I get those sharp, well-defined images I see everyone else capturing? Are their photos zoomed in and cropped? I can never seem to get a close up photo. Do I need another lens or photography classes?
