AITA for asking someone to pay me back?
Post Body

I (F19) studied abroad in France. During that time, I lived with a French family and a roommate (F19) from my school. I knew her in high school and we ended up going to the same college so I thought we would get along well and be fine roommates. We were given unlimited metro passes from our program to get around. As well, the metro in Paris closes at 1AM.

My roommate wanted to go out to bars and meet people the first night (she knew some people in the program already). We took the metro there and after taking MANY stairs to get out of the station and. She asked if we could Uber instead of walk because her feet hurt and I said that was fine. She said she didnā€™t have Uber on her phone so I placed the ride instead. By the time we were done drinking, the metro was closed and she asked for me to order an Uber, which I did.

Next night, she asked to go out and I said I did not want to. She said she didnā€™t want to go alone so I agreed to go with her on one condition: we take the metro there AND back. Meaning we needed to leave early. Fast forward at the bar, itā€™s around 12:15 and I said we should start heading home. She says the metro is too unsafe right now so we should Uber. I tried to contest and then she said she would pay for it. Again, I scheduled the Uber and she did not pay me back. This happened other times; when we wanted to go out, I would Uber us there. Another time, we went to get our nails done. But, the place only took cash. After our appointment, I ran to the closest ATM to get cash to pay for both of us. She said she would Venmo me part of the money and give me cash for the rest (USD not Euros).

I returned home (She was still in Europe with her family on a vacation) and added up all the money from the Ubers and sent her a Venmo request. As well, I sent her another Venmo request for the remainder of the mail money. Total was $90 for both requests. I sent her a very kindly worded message asking her if she had received the requests. No answer. Sent another message asking if she had seen the message. No answer. Week later, I told her it is not cool for her to ignore this and it is disrespectful. I sent it when I went to sleep and she would have been waking up in Europe, assuming she would answer by the time I woke up. No answer. I sent her a Snapchat asking to check her messages; 1 minute later she responded saying ā€œlet me get home and get money because I donā€™t have any and my parents donā€™t give me any and then Iā€™ll pay you back for nailsā€ and explained again she said she would give me cash. After this, she unadded me on Snapchat. Her message seemed rude and throwing shade at the fact my parents pay for some things for me and almost insinuating I donā€™t need her to pay me back (maybe thatā€™s just what I think). When we were in Paris and she finally downloaded Uber, she asked me to pay her for half the Uber and I did. She would ask me to pay for groceries and I did.
