I recently started renting a furnished room in a house as a temporary housing situation to work at a different location for my job. The person I am renting from lives in the house, as well as one other renter. When I moved in the landlord said that the bath towels were not something that she shared. And, while I wasn’t expecting this, I was fine with that and went out to buy some bath towels. I was cleaning the bathroom and noticed the hand towel hanging on the hook got dirty so I tossed it in the wash and put up a new one from the linen cabinet in the bathroom. This happened again when I cleaned the bathroom again. The bathroom is a communal bathroom, used by all three of us, although I believe the land lord also has her own bathroom. Later I received a text from her saying “I’m trying to understand why my hand towels are being used in your bathroom. I found not only 1, but 2 of my personal towels. I have never had this problem with any tenants using my towels.” I tried to explain to her that I was sorry and why I had thought that the hand towels were communal. And she just got more upset with me and claimed that she had told be about the hand towels before. But I genuinely do not remember her saying anything about that. If she had, I would have been fine buying some hand towels, but I just didn’t know. Is it unreasonable that I assumed that the bathroom hand towels were a shared item?
