AITA for asking for a ‘service charge’ be removed from the bill

Post Body

So I was in a bar with some friends a few nights ago, we had a couple drinks each and then asked for the bill. When it arrived it had 12.5% added to the cost as a service charge. I asked the waitstaff to remove this as it wasn’t displayed on the menu that it would be added. For additional context I’m from the UK and this isn’t a normal practice. The way the staff reacted made me think I’d just done something awful, but my friends generally agreed with me, AITA?
