AITA For changing my mind in selling something to my best friend

Post Body

Hey Reddit, I could use some 3rd party perspective on this one as I don't fully understand some key things here.

So a few months ago I mentioned to my best friend that I would sell him my old car for like 1500 bucks or something and that we could talk about it more when he was done working his seasonal job. It was a loose, "maybe, let's talk it out kinda thing"

So here he's back, and I said yeah let's dive into it a little more and I said I wanted to look at the kbb and see what makes sense. It turns out the car is worth a lot more than I expected and I said look, I know you don't want to pay that much so how about I loan it for splitting the cost of a pair of new tires with me ($200 bucks) and you can drive it for as long as you want 1 year. He gets super mad at me, and basically refused to talk about it with me or even come to a compromise. Shit I'd still give him a great deal on it but, for what he's wanting it's essentially giving him $2500 bucks. He wants to pay me $1500, it's worth 4ish. I told him multiple times that I was sorry and I was not aware it was worth that much when I originally was talking.

My family said just give him the car for the friendship, but I feel like nobody is looking at my side of things. I feel like we could come to a mutually beneficial agreement but he won't even talk to me now.

Am I the asshole for changing my mind in this situation?
