It's a weird title, but somehow I am the asshole for helping my friend move.
Short version: Friend packs literally night of move, expects me to help, and then drive a UHaul from Albuquerque to Dallas. Also, I pay for my own flight back and our hotel room, as well as food and stuff. Then insults me, complains about my attitude, and says I'm being an awful friend.
Backstory:
I agreed to help my friend move back in July, meaning that I would drive the U Haul from Albuquerque to Dallas, a ten or eleven hour drive in one if those boxes.
Before the move nothing seemed solid, he was having trouble getting an apartment, didn't realize how much U Hauls cost, and was generally uncommunicative about what was going on.
Move day:
With less than 24 hours notice he said yes, the move was on and let's leave tomorrow morning. So I agree, but want to leave at four am (to avoid morning rush in ABQ and evening rush in Dallas). So I bought a plane ticket and a hotel for couple nights (he still didn't have the new place complete sorted out).
I get there at 4, nothing is packed and nothing is ready. He hasn't cleaned his old place. Plus he had a shit ton of attitude. I nearly left then, but I'm one of his only friends and no one else was going to do it. So for the next three hours we pack and load the truck. Finally leaving at around 730.
We didn't get into a hotel and settle in until 730pm because we still had to get a lock for the U Haul.
That night he blew up. Said I was being bossy about rushing at gas stations, because I was annoyed with 30/45 minute stops. And went on and on about how much of an asshole I am and that me not knowing when the move day was, was my fault. Then proceeded to insult me repeatedly me and lost it when I said I didn't agree, and in fact a little gratitude would be appreciated. He takes off and gets his own hotel.
A few days later (today)...
He writes to complain and insults me again. And that I didn't put the right stuff in the U-Haul. Some of it was supposed to be trash. "That whatever I was going through" wasn't fair to take out on him.
