For context, I live with my parents still and my nephews/nieces and babies (age 1 and 2.5). I Just generally hate babies because of how dumb, ugly and demanding I find them to be. Ik I’m the asshole for that part but it’s just my mind. But aita for how I handled it?
My Brother and his Wife bought over their 2 kids for a generic get together between my family and them. My parents know I hate the very concept of infants, in this they still insisted that I hold my nephew which I’m not only not keen on, but also a little scared I will accidentally drop him. I tried to politely decline, stating I was uncomfortable doing so.
They ended up giving me what I’m sure you all understand as “The Smile of Death”. Idk what to tell you if you don’t get that. I continued to socialise until The men started talking about work and sports and the women started talking about babies and Current affairs while playing with the kids.
At this point I decided to slip into the bathroom for an extra long shit to wait out the storm. I sat on that toilet, browsing reddit for about an hour, before popping out for a snack then disappearing.
I heard about half an hour later that they where wrapping up so I came out to say farewells. Mom insisted I kissed both the babies on the forehead, knowing how much I hate affectionate interaction in any way. I leaned it awkwardly and gave them both pecks before they left.
My parents claimed that I embarrassed them and that I needed to grow up. I tried to tell them that they would be less embarrassed if they had not tried to force me to do something that I’m not comfortable doing. They didn’t hear it out and I have been given the cold shoulder for 2 days now. AITA?
