I use the term boss loosely. I work in one of those Office Space type scenarios where you have like 6 people over you who just pest you about obscure forms. Anyway they all had been pretty helpful lately so I wanted to do something nice to show my appreciation. They all like having coffee at their desk so I got them each a cute but plain coaster and a thank you card.
Most of them seemed to appreciate my gesture but one got really offended. They made a big stink about how it was rude and passive aggressive. Needless to say I was pretty flabbergasted at the reaction.
I didn’t get in trouble with HR or anything but it’s been bothering me ever since. Is there some kind of horrible secret meaning behind giving someone a coaster as a gift? AITA?
