AITA for speaking up at the dog park?

Post Body

Went to the dog run with my fiancĂ© and the pup, a smaller pit mix who’s super sweet, super friendly, but loves to play—think a big but gentle puppy.

We were hanging out with another couple who had a dog and were just kind of giggling at the pups antics.

So, me, fiancĂ©, and pup decide on some alone time by the entrance. A middle aged/older white yuppie type comes in with a min pin and a beagle and our pup goes over to say “hello” to the new dogs. He says the min pin doesn’t like other dogs, so we start to walk over to move our dog away from him.

He says “no don’t worry about it, she’ll let your dog know” so we let them be. A split second later min pin growls, bears teeth, and bites our dog. Middle aged dude bounds over and flings our dog by the collar away.

At this point I’m shaken, but his dog is the one that bit ours, not the inverse. And we hold our dog, like “should we leave?” And we talk it out and think that dude should leave since 1) we were here first, and 2) his dog was animal aggressive, not ours.

So we decide to leave, but as a compromise I decide to tell the guy that park rule 10 states that if you have an aggressive dog they need to be on leash. He then says /our dog/ bit his. I tell him that’s not what happened and he’s being wholly dishonest, and that I should call animal control.

Am I the asshole?
