So the story goes, I knew this guy in university. We weren’t very good friends but he was always at the student union bar whenever I would go there and he would sometimes visit my table and we’d have a laugh. Bear in mind, we were never that good of friends and I never saw him at parties or anywhere outside of the student union bar. Also bear in mind, I never saw him drinking or drunk so I know alcoholism would not be a problem of his.

Anyways, I graduate (2018) and get on with my life, and end up moving back to the US. There was no contact with this gentleman up until a few months ago he messages me and says he’s in a tight spot with a friend of his and is in need of financial aid. I reluctantly agree but I wasn’t in a good financial position myself and then take back my initial offer.

He said he understood and good luck and all that, and that was it. Then a few days ago, he messaged me again, asking for help with a ‘huge favour’.

He’s in a different country, we don’t have that close of a friendship, and the money I’m considering lending him will never see the light of day again.

I moved his messages to my ignore box and so there you have it. AITA?
