AITA for organizing my roommate’s stuff

Post Body

For disclosure this hasn’t happened yet but I was planning on it.

Background: I(33m) am the sole person on the rental agreement for a 1500sq/ft townhome. I have two roommates(24F and 26 MTF). The 26 year old had moved in about a year and half ago into my second bedroom I wasn’t using. This past June, the 24 year old(we’ll call her Jane) was in a real bad place, and I offered them a place to stay. They took me up on the offer and everyone has been happy.

Situation: I only have two bedroom so since June, Jane has been sleeping and in essence, living in my living room on the futon. She doesn’t complain at all about this and since June her mental and emotional state has slowly and surely gotten better. However, this townhome isn’t the largest for 3 people and quickly is running outta space. Now being the Tetris master I am, I’ve organized the upstairs, my room, and downstairs to give Jane room for her stuff and so far it’s been good. However I’ve noticed that the carpets are needing to be cleaned real bad. So I was planning on heading to get a carpet cleaner, but I also was planning on getting some under the bed storage containers, pack up my roommates loose items under the futon, move their stuff(Dresser, shoes, Landry hamper, and a few moving boxes) to the kitchen, and get cleaning on the carpets. I was planning on it tonight as everybody should be out of the house, give me time to clean, and carpets to dry.

Question: AITA for moving their stuff and organizing/putting their things in storage containers. My mentality is that I’d like this to be a surprise cause I want the living room to be cleaned and much nicer for her, and all her thing will be right under the Futon in bins for her. Plus, as the guy on the hook for the carpets, I make sure they are good for once I/we move out. But I also don’t want to be an ass in touching her things. Or for her to think i went through her stuff.
