There are a lot of instances where I know I was treated differently by my parents. Though, I’ll just get into one occasion.
During my schooling(age 12), my dad had challenged to me and my twin that whoever scores above the minimum grade he set, he will buy them a cycle. Everyone knew I was not the brightest kid among us. Eventually my twin was able to get a new cycle.
However, I was always into sports and athletics. Won many medals during the annual sports event. Was never appreciated for that by my parents ever. Apart from congratulations I never received anything for it. No one had thought me how to cycle ever. I learnt it all by myself by borrowing other’s cycle. This was never noticed about me by any of my parent. My parents always prioritised studies over sports which I don’t blame them for.
AITA for bringing that to them and telling them it was not the right thing to do. My twin also sided with my parents saying it was a challenge and I failed to make the minimum grade set by them. Also, I’m in my late 20’s now. Please also consider the fact that I was never their favourite kid, which kind of makes me angry sometimes for being treated different and less favoured than my twin.
AITA for thinking it was wrong to buy one twin the cycle and not the other though I failed to get the minimum grade?
NOTE: The discussion with my parents ended in a huge fight and I was blamed for it. All I want to know is AITA for starting a fight pointing out that I was treated differently mentioning cycle as one of such incidents. Also, my parents never mentioned that twin was their favourite kid. However, I can point out number of instances that is so subtle but makes a big difference in my world. Cycle incident was one such.
