Me(24f) and my BestFriend (26f) have been been bestfriends since high school She came over this Thnksgivin and my mom told her she didnt need to bring anything she brought over a bottle of whiskey and gave it to my mom she texted me the next day saying she needed the bottle back before she messaged me she had already texted and called my mom a few about getting it

Turns out she didnt buy the bottle, she lives at home and brought one of her dad bottles. she asked the dads girlfriend for permission but not him. She told him and he was upset and told her it was a limited edition bottle you cant even get anymore and he wanted it back

HOWEVER my mom looked up the bottle after she told her that and its not a limited edition bottle, you can get it for about 50$ at the liquor store Anyway the Thanksgiving a year earlier she also came over and brought some wine that we didnt end up drinking that she took back with her.She also a slow learner so I thought she just didnt realize etiquette cause she has done a couple other questionable things over time. I thought this was the perfect time to bring it up so I could speak to specific events just so she self aware in the future we talk everything out and I was so fucking confident. I LITERALLY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG I called her and asked her to explain the situation all the info I had been getting was from my mom. she only briefly texted me about it yet had called my mom and everything, which also slightly irritated me. I feel like if she would have called me first we could have figured it out I could have bought my mom a replacement and switched it out without her knowing. Or gave her the money to buy a new bottle. I feel like she robbed me of all the options we had!

When I called her she explained the situation and told me it was a limited edition bottle. I told her it wasn't limited edition and brought up the other occasions where little things happened. She responded with " ok I just won't come over your mom's house anymore" and "you and your mom were talking shit about me".

I was in DISBELIEF because she sees my mom all the time and is so good her and my mom wasnt even mad. I wasnt mad and I made sure to bring that up a couple times during, I just wanted to talk to her about it. I tried to explain that this wasn't my mom, that I wanted to talk to her about it just so she would be mindful in the future. She missed the point of the conversation. I ended the call cause it was going nowhere.

I Tried calling her after a day she wanted to txt instead Said she never want to come back over my mom and after a few back and fort she said she didnt want to be friends anymore. We have 7 years of friendship. Getting mixed responses from people saying I shouldn't have brought it up So AITA?

TLDR; Friend gifted mom liquor asked for it back Brought up etiquette to friend and doesn't want to be friends anymore
