This happened a couple days ago and I am wandering if I could have handled this interaction better.
I was at Walmart at about 9am in the morning shopping for work supplies. I work at a nonprofit and we have very specific requirements when we do purchases. I had a total of 5 separate transactions. Luckily, there were not a lot of people there, so it was only a slight inconvenience for the cashier.
This particular Walmart started implementing a new policy. Tax exempt purchases now have two receipts per transaction. I was a little confused when I received two receipts after each transaction. By the end of my trip, I have 10 separate receipts for my 5 purchases. I was trying to hurry up and just kind of jammed all the receipts together, figuring I could sort through them later. Now this is where I could have been the asshole. I presented all 10 receipts to the greeter in a very disorganized fashion. The greeter was kind of annoyed and understandably so. She went through each of the receipts and took the extra receipts, handed them to me and told me they have to go back to the cashier. This is when I got annoyed. I told her “Im not gonna do that, I wasn’t aware that the extra receipt stayed at the register, and it wasn’t my problem.” She argued “I can’t leave the door.” That’s when I just took all receipts and started walking out the front door. She got visibly upset, grabbed the extra receipts from my hand and walked back to the register. I just walked out the door? AITA?? I could have spent 2 minutes returning the receipts to the cashier, but it isn’t my job. Plus the door checked kind of rubbed me the wrong way with her initial response.
