It’s not too late for me to change my decision here so I figured I’d ask Reddit if I’m being a dick or not. I (F20) am currently studying abroad, but normally live in America. I have an Etsy account that I have used in the past to order random things, but haven’t made a purchase since April of last year. While I was in Europe, I got a notification from my credit card that a $261.78 charge was made from Etsy. Pretty immediately after this notification, over 200 emails flooded my inbox of the gmail account connected to my Esty. I’ve had this email since junior high and everything is connected to it, so I’m always careful not to sign up for any spam. All of the emails I received were for various accounts that were being set up via my email. It was super stressful! Since this day, I have gotten over 500 emails of accounts being made for random sites, some in different languages. I checked my etsy account and it said that nobody had logged in since April, which made no sense because the order was placed under my name, with my credit card, being sent to my address. It was a mens size XL sweatshirt (very far from my size) from a company I have never heard of. I’ve never visited their site before. I called my credit card company and cancelled the charge plus now have to have a new card sent overseas because of the security risk. This happened on Friday, and this morning (Tuesday) at 9 am I messaged the seller explaining the situation and told them not to waste their time sending out the order. 8 hours later I got an email that the order had been shipped out. About 10 minutes after that the seller messaged me back asking me to send back their item. AITA for ignoring the message? I’m abroad and would have to ask my parents to send back this package that I didn’t want and I messaged not to send. This would be money (for shipping costs) coming out of my pocket for a situation that is not my fault. I get that they’re a small business owner, but I’m a college student and have already had to pay to get a new credit card shipped overseas which was not cheap.
