AITA for not getting my friend a Valentines card?

Post Body

So my a friend who I’ve know since 2008 and shared holidays and numerous day trips, other activities with is currently on a cruise with his partner.

I returned from work today and he had kindly sent me a valentines card in the post. Inside it read ‘to My name’ from your BFF ‘his name’

We then had the following exchange:

Me: Thanks for the valentines card. Just got home and opened it. Him: I didn’t see the postman bring yours ?? (He has access to his Ring camera while away) Me: I didn’t get one Him: Wow Me: I don’t tend to do valentines cards (note: on previous years I’ve sometimes given one, sometimes not) is there a valentines cruise or theme night on the ship? Him : Well not as if you have plenty of suitors lined up - well consider it your last card from me - ever Me: 🙄 Him: Sometimes nice to think of others Me: I don’t expect any valentines cards. It’s nice you sent me one and thank you, but I equally wouldn’t get all bent out of shape if I’d sent you one and you hadn’t returned the gesture. It’s just a day that very commercially driven. If you had been here I would have got you one, but your on a cruise in the sea and by the time you return valentines will be gone. And if I got you one now, we’ll you would say it’s too late. So it’s a no win. Him: Anyway let’s leave it Me: yes, let’s Him: Just reinforced certain things , I will leave you to your action packed evening Me: You have a lovely evening and take your ‘Reinforced certain things’ comment and shove it
