After reading this Reddit post re: Bob Dylan and phones in concert, it morphed into the quality of Bob's shows. Shows, as well as selling intellectual property rights, are the bread and butter of headliners. Hence the skyrocketing price of live shows. I have heard it before about Dylan and I'm not willing to gamble the money to see him.
A concert is an investment of money, time, and memory. I have shows that I'll carry to my deathbed, good and bad. Bad ones really stick out, especially those of artists that I love and respect.
The worst show I ever saw was Bob Mould sold out at the Metro in Chicago. He was alone and using a Fender amp at his feet. There was a soundboard, but no one was working the board. I really thought his amp or monitor was damaged. People were leaving en masse after 5 or 6 songs to the point that when I left, there were less than 100 people there. It was absurdly bad. It didn't drive me away from Bob Mould, but I haven't been near to his catalog much since.
What say you? Any VERY bad shows?
EDIT: Lights were on. His amp was the first one you got used at Guitar Center when you are 14. No conversation.
Honorable Mention: No surprise, Morrissey at the beautiful Chicago Theater. $75 tickets, played for an hour and walked off. Ill listen to Johnny Marr, but never Morrissey again.
