I asked the same question on AlternateHistory.com, but asking here won't hurt, even though there might be a lot of shared members between the forum and the subreddit: could've either attempt succeeded, and what if it did, even just for a few seasons?

Looking at the USA, a similar split in open-wheel racing was taken advantage of by NASCAR, and Indy racing never really recovered so, might've another championship seen a surge in popularity in Europe and elsewhere? The memes over there on /r/formula1/ might be a lot different, for sure. :P
