I was very excited to return to Allahabad after a long year outside, as mentioned by my last post here, so I thought that for whatever little time I do stay here, I'll make sure I take snippets of the same and post it amongst y'all, so here we are with this mini series of my favourite places to eat in this lovely town.
Venue: Tuck In
Location: Civil Lines (Beside Vinayak City Centre a.k.a. PVR)
Best Time to eat: Post 7:30 PM in the evening
Recommendation: Chicken Roll/Chicken Tikka Roll (with cheese), get a soft drink from the shop beside.
The Deets
TuckIn, for millennials like us, has been a decade old institution which used to be our go-to place when we were in our schools. Idk much about CBSE folks back then (no judgement), but this used to be THE PLACE to eat for all the ICSE ones (BHS, GHS, SMC, SJC, and others :P). I remember I started coming to this place all the way back in 2010 when I was still in middle school. The place used to serve Egg Rolls for INR 25/- and those were TO DIE FOR.
TuckIn offered a variety of rolls, ranging from Chicken Tikka to Chicken Barbeque (something folks at Allahabad hadn't heard much about except for movies on Star Movies, yes, that era lol). Over the years, TuckIn expanded to offering burgers in the same range, but rolls always have been to die for.
Lately, mostly after the Biriyani Craze of the city in 2015 after the big hype of Eat On, TuckIn started offering Biriyani, Kebabs, Fried Chicken etc., which led to the newer crowd knowing that shop for these products, but the OG still remains their rolls!
Their USP/MVP
The best thing about TuckIn, something which I am yet to eat even after travelling outside of India, is their MAYO. Now idk what that guy does with his Mayo (pun intended), but that shit is worth dying for. It just enhances the taste of the roll 10x. <3
The next best thing about TuckIn, is the fact that one fucking roll is enough to fill you up for the meal. Idk how that guy does it, but it is heavy, and scrumptious, all at once!
The Shortcomings
- The place is small, so it gets congested at times, and you can't eat inside, it's too warm because of the flames. They've opened a small seating space upstairs, but that isn't much relief anyways.
- The place doesn't offer Cold Drinks :( . I know that might be a ME problem, but had they been offering that, it would just go perfectly with their stuff, that too considering how every place in Allahabad literally offers it.
That's my 2 cents for this place folks. I'll keep updating more places in the time to come. :)
Rating: A Solid 8.5/10. The place is one of the few ones who have maintained their taste and quality for more than 10 years now.
