Walked out of my Aldi store after I was fed up with the abuse and fuckery my SM committed for over 2 years. Was there from 2015 to late 2017 for 2 1/2 years and was a Shift Manager.

She called me around 8 pm and told me I had to do something on the computer for her, as our DM asked her to do it. She lived an hour away from the store and couldn't be bothered to do it herself. So she called me, while it was just me and one other associate, with a shit ton of stuff to get done (it was late October and we had to set up all the holiday displays and signage, etc.), and told me I had to do it because it had to be in that night.

What should have taken 5 minutes, tops, she walked me through it and made me do so many changes to it that it took over 45 minutes. Now mind you, it was me and one other person. For the time I worked there, we only had 3 people in the store at one time, at most. I had to sit in the office at the computer that whole time while she just talked and nitpicked all my decisions.

She never liked me, but she didn't hate me at first. She always had to bully someone, though. There were other targets she went after before I was her target. She would openly talk shit about them to me and since I was under her, I had to listen and agree. But she was just full-on unprofessional and lazy. Would constantly take smoke breaks on the loading dock, where she would gossip and talk shit on the phone. She managed to get the SM spot because she knew how to schmooze and manipulate. She also would leave unexpectedly and wouldn't let me know. So since this was back when I would get a higher pay rate when the SM wasn't in the store, but I would have to clock in every time, she would leave when I was deep in a lot of work. So I lost out on extra pay. But if I clocked in a few minutes before she left, she would have a fit and lecture me on how I have no right to do that and that I will be in more trouble if I do it again. But at that time, I wasn't getting the brunt of her abuse. It didn't last long.

I suffered an injury on the job, where I tripped over a box and I landed on my elbow, which swelled up and I couldn't move it. She was off that day because it was her birthday. I called her and told her I got hurt and she was like, "What do you want me to do about it? It's my birthday" In a very snarky tone. I then called my DM, who told me that she will come over to the store and watch it until my SM gets there so I can go to the doctor. On my way out, I go into the office and I hear my DM on the phone, ripping my SM a new one because SM was telling her she wasn't coming in. Once I finally came back from being off for over a week, my SM was out for revenge.

I was public enemy #1 and our other Shift Manager, who was a transfer from her previous store, became her favorite. SM would purposefully keep me out of the loop on important things and actually tried to send me home from a shift because I asked the other Shift Manager if she told her the same information that she told me. Surprise: SM lied to me. But SM overheard me talking to the other Shift Manager and she FLIPPED and accused me of talking about her behind her back and that I'm being sent home due to my disrespect. I was appalled, but I did call my DM and told her what happened. SM told the DM that it was a whole misunderstanding, I started it and that I threatened to walk out because I wasn't happy with my schedule for the week.

Back to the main story. She then tells me that everything MUST be done and perfect by 9 pm and that we cannot stay past 9. And if we do stay past and/or it's not perfect, I'm getting written up. She told me this at 8:45 pm. And this wasn't the first time she threatened a write up. She would threaten my job almost daily.

She had a notebook in the office that recorded all of my supposed "insubordination" and she left it out in plain sight. It was pages long. All because she had insane expectations for me and wanted me to do all of her work, on top of mine. And I had the audacity to tell her what she was asking for was unrealistic, especially springing it on me at the last minute constantly.

A few months before I quit, she calls me into the office and tells me that I'm getting a review, with the DM present. She gave me terrible marks for everything, giving me a 1 for every category. I was just so beaten down that I just didn't give a crap about it.

If you're wondering why I stayed so long, I didn't quit earlier because my boyfriend at the time, now ex, told me I wasn't allowed to quit until I found a job that would pay me more than $50k/year and had a M-F 9-5 schedule. His lack of support and empathy didn't make it better. I was severely depressed. He told me that I should let them fire me, but with all the documentation my SM had on me, I'd most likely get denied unemployment. He didn't care. He just told me to shut up about my work problems and do something about it.

I then told her that what she was telling me to do was impossible. She said, "I don't care. You do what I tell you to do!" I just broke. I then told her I was done and that I quit and hung up. I was in the process of texting my DM that I quit when she called me back and told me to get the hell out of her store or she's calling the cops. So I left my keys with the associate, texted my DM that I quit, effective immediately and I walked out. She then tried to say that I walked out and took the keys with me. DM calls me and asks where the keys are and I told her I left them with the associate who was still there.

Last contact I had was the exit interview I had with my DM. She called me while I was in the car with my boyfriend, and she asked me questions about my "experience" at Aldi. If anything was below 'Neutral', I had to explain specific examples and I told her, "I will not be giving examples, because I do not have the energy to do so. Please just make everything the lowest it can be and just write "No comment."

If you're curious, she is/was a SM in Georgia and her name started with a C. That woman was a monster.
