So I have several chronic health issues that lead to my having to bring a large amount of medical supplies with me with I travel. Most airlines will allow you to check a medical bag for free, but when I reached out to customer service they said if I checked a bag at the counter with nothing but medical equipment in it I would be charged.-
"Normally those items would be charged a standard baggage fee. As long as the items fall within TSA exceptions you could take it to the gate as a carry on, or see if they will check it at the gate for free if there is an excess of carry on luggage."
When I brought up the weight they said they weren't concerned as long as I could safely put it in the overhead bin... The thing is, I'm in a wheelchair. How am I supposed to "carry-on" three bags or so, plus get them up in the overhead bin?!?!
If I could check it like most airlines I wouldn't have to worry about getting the bags to the plane, in the overhead bins, out of the overhead bins, to my next plane... and all over again.
So, my question to you all... is the customer service representative correct that I would be charged the baggage fee at the counter for a bag containing ONLY medical items?
