Hey friends,
I realize this is extremely vague and is probably one of his many lectures that touch on this. I have just recently gotten into Alan Watts even after knowing about him for many years.
A very long time ago I had a friend I met through the graffiti scene in Charleston, SC. He was a very eccentric man who lived in Charleston, SC and I miss him dearly (I have lost touch with him over the years). I came down to visit him and after a long night out, we went back to his house and smoked a decent amount of weed. He put on a lecture by Alan Watts and him and I sat and listened to it for quite a while. I was on the verge of crying the entire time because I (21 or 22 at the time) felt like for the first time in my life there was hope and home.
A part of the lecture was something along the lines of God (he had a name for it) pretending to be all of us and us playing with him. Alan explained it and said something along the lines of "I see what you're doing, God, you trickster" -- That was not the line, but that was the vibe he came from it. Almost like "God, you ol' rascal. I see the game you're playing."
The past few weeks for me have been rough existentially and emotionally and I rediscovered a book this dear friend of mine gave me called "The Book" and am about 25 or 30 pages into it and it reminded me of this lecture. I want to continue. Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you,
