Question about increase in particulates in apt

Hey!
I have a purifier that tracks air particulates and have normally been pretty clean. Yesterday I got a humidifier because my apartment has been super dry and all of a sudden my particulates jumped from 7 to 400!
Has anyone had experience with this? Is the humidity tripping up the sensor or is it taking particulates that were otherwise not suspended and moving it to a solution where they can be grabbed by the purifier? Appreciate any insight anyone has!
