Air message only gettijgessages when the app is open - has anyone found a workaround ?

This is getting out for hand. I keep missing important messages for hours or days until I remember to open the air message app.
Has anyone found a solution? Is the developer working on a fix ? I realize this is a free app but I'm happy to pay if that will help i just need it working..
We can say it's android 11 killing processes but there must be a workaround. My sms app doesn't get killed.. Facebook Messenger doesn't get killed.. WhatsApp doesn't get killed.. why does air message?
