I want to Palace Chase, but I'm worried.
Post Body

Can somebody please help me, I am active duty, almost half way through a 6 year enlistment, and I want to Palace Chase. I heard rumors of a 1 to 1 obligation ratio for time left vs time in the ANG, but now that's gone due to the Voluntary FY14 Force Management Programs being fulfilled. That means id have to sign up for 6 years in the ANG under the normal 2 to 1 ratio.

6 years is a long commitment, and that's what got me in trouble in the first place was signing a 6 year contract, so I'm worried. I have questions:

  • What is life like in the ANG reporting in 1 weekend a month for a maintainer?

  • Will the ANG possibly keep me from getting a civilian job?

  • What happens if my ANG Base potentially shuts down, where would I have to report?

  • How do people already in the guard view people who palace chase?

  • Is it worth doing... ?

I've seen what i wanted to see on the Active Duty side, deployed to Afghanistan once. I'm home sick. I want to come home and start my life, but I don't want to wait the 3 years to finish out my current ADSC.

Please, any insight would be helpful.
