Interested in hearing from those who rent for 30 days through airbnb. I own a tiny house in a resort town that i'm interested in generating income from, but I don't want to do shorter than 30 day stays for several reasons. 1. My municipality regulates under 30 day rentals but not 30 days or over. Under 30 means extra taxes, but also inspections and registration of the place which i'm not interested in. 2. I don't really want all the work. I'm ok trading the potential higher income for less work. Part of the goal is to have the place available for friends and family, and longer term try to pay back the investment in the place and generate income in retirement (15 years away). Due to existing utilities on the property we ended up being under 50k into the whole thing and we will save probably around 15k in rent ourselves living in it for the next year or so before starting to rent so we do not need to generate extremely high amounts for it to be worth it to us. I like the idea of monthly rentals as well philosophically because it seems like it fills a different demographic - people who are slow exploring the area instead of tourists that maybe we could actually get to know a little, people in transition who just need a place while they find longer term housing which is difficult here, etc.
Just curious what people think about this or if anyone else does this.
