I'm renting an AirBNB in a major Eastern European city and coming from the US.
I messaged the host a few times about what the key arrangement would be for checkin. I've used AirBNB about 30 or so times in the past, but only in the US, and my experience is generally that you pick up the key on the premises from a lockbox, or the host physically arrives and hands it to you.
The host got back to me the day before my arrival. The host offers one of two ways to pick up the key: via a paid airport shuttle service, where the driver picks you up and has the keys already for an additional fee, or you can go to the host's office and pick up the key there.
The host doesn't offer any other way to pick up the key. Is this typical? The office is nowhere near the apartment (3 miiles away) and I'm not renting a car, so this seems really unorthodox to me.
Is this typical for Eastern European hosts, or hosts anywhere? Does AirBNB have any rules about how the key handoff should happen?
