Post Body

Hey there this is my first post in this subreddit, I genuinely had a question on what I should do in this situation?

We where contacted by the host this afternoon around 2 o’clock, asking come by in the next few hours to swap a furnace filter and he was not sure what size the filter was so he wanted to swing by and check it out he also stated he wanted to charge his Tesla in front of our rental (which is a trailer home put on a foundation) it’s been kind of a weird experience coming from staying in a condo last month for around the same price.

Anyways I agreed to let him come in and swap the filters we where going to leave anyways to run some errands so I did let him know that it should be cool to come over in 20 min and we would leave the key hidden so he would be able to enter the property. We where pretty hot that morning woke up and wanted to turn on the air conditioning for just a little while it’s some type of unit that requires a remote to operate and there are two separate units in this rental. We set the air conditioning pretty high around 70 degrees didn’t need to cool it off too much just a reasonable amount. The host come pulling in the driveway not even 5 minutes later so we kinda felt rushed to leave, we ended up leaving the rental and forgot to turn off the air conditioner, didn’t really think of it that much because it was set high, plus the host was coming over so we just left.

We came back about 3 1/2 hours later and the host was still at the house, didn’t wanna bother him so we left for another half an hour this time we pulled up to the rental and the host was gone but not even five minutes after we get back he pulls into the driveway again, messages me if it was all right if he comes and replaces the filter anyways I let him in, conversation was pretty short and he just said alright have a good one and left. This is when we noticed the air-conditioning was turned off. The unit itself opens up when air is blowing out of it and when it’s operating. Not only was the unit itself shut off completely. We looked all over the rental, high and low which again this is not a big rental at all ( size of a trailer home ) and the remote has vanished completely when it was right on top of the counter when we left. We didn’t notice this until the host already left for the night and he did not bring anything up about it at all. Luckily at night it gets pretty cool here but I’m still a little perplexed when the Airbnb listing says you’re able to use the air-conditioning yet the remote has been taken away from us so we cannot use it? Are we being punished for leaving the air-conditioning on? I’ve just been getting more and more disappointed with this rental compared to a month ago when we were staying in a condo.

We call them hidden jimmy’s, ( Stuff that is present at the rental but is not disclosed on the airbnb listing ) things like

There was a hanging carbon monoxide alarm that wasn’t attached

Broken dishwasher

Randomly getting packages that are for the host

Multiple locked doors cabinets and a whole cupboard where I think there are extra sheets

Hair was on the bed and no second pair to change the sheets

And now host parking his Tesla out front of the rental?

Definitely lots of hidden jimmy’s here lol

Anyways I just wanted to get some advice on what to do or how to handle the situation with the air conditioning, remote randomly vanishing after the host came over….

He replaced the filters, he was in the home twice because I left a package that was directed for him inside by the front door and when we originally came back, the package was gone, remote missing and shortly afterwards he comes back to replace the filter.
