What should I be spending pearls on?

Just started playing a week or so ago, Rank 23.. enjoying it so far. What is best to prioritize with pearls? Buying items from ports or? Also what about mastery? I maxed Auto-Fish and Fishing Meter Holder, Auto Voyage is at level 3 right now. What's a good number to get inventory at? And should I focus on any of the skills more than others? Also what is best to prioritize upgrading at the farm?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!
