No civilization on the brink of collapse has ever changed fast enough to avert collapse. - Joel Salatin
Nlemeanya had found the accidental rise of the Athemoran Empire to be interesting, but what happened next was absolutely intriguing. Having encroached on territory the Empire of Xa considered to be their own, conflict seemed inevitable. But, as a testament to the fickle nature She had imbued them with, the Great Conquerer who had united the Empire under his banner died in his war room, planning his next conquest, choking on a chicken bone. His sons tried to prevent their new Empire from falling into disarray, but disagreements between them exacerbated existing factionalism within the Empire, weakening the already patchy internal cohesion that a massive conquest inevitably brings. When the Xa took advantage of the infighting to reclaim the lands it had lost, infighting became all-out collapse.
Xa armies from the north quickly pushed through a token defense force to reach the north, launching a naval invasion of the island they had settled years previous. The archipelago to the south, quick to realize they would be next if they tried to stand with the Athemorans, declared themselves independent, and swore a non-agression pact with the Xa. To the west, the different peoples south of the mountains took the same idea and ran with it... all at the same time. Dozens of tribes and petty kingdoms rose up, all claiming authority over lands big and small. The Athemorans, weakened by the loss of their southern and eastern territories, did their best to form up a second defensive force, and even managed to win a few battles, but they knew that they could not hold out for long. Eventually they came to terms with the Xa, ceding land they held between the core of the Empire of Xa and the coast. Having lost most of their possessions, the now smaller Kingdom of Athemore consolidated what was left of their territory, and began to rebuild.
This major upheaval pleased Nlemeanya greatly - through the collapse of the Empire, new experience could be brought. And She was right - soon a new Great Chief had appeared to the south, and united many of the lands under the mountains. Through shared whispers among these new civilizations, She ensured that these histories would be remembered, inspiring them to create a new shared language, writing style, and record keeping, improvements that would further bolster these new states, and improve governance, trade, and cultural experience. She did not know how Her creations would use this new knowledge, but hoped it would be as inspiring as what had already transpired.
