The wyrm shrugged
Post Body

The scholars of Gobh scuttled around the queens gardens, between the steward lady and the ruins of an old castle where they read the many works of Gobh. The small critters whispered in the ear of the lady steward and she discussed with them the many subjects of philosophy and the carnal universality of the perceived universe. The many critters were short lived and few were able to conduct deep studies but rather kept to chapters or just paragraphs – their duty as scholars was honorary. The real duty of the critters was to inhabit the great twisting mountains of bone and marrow that bent in impossible shapes and angles, where a most foul wind blew unless they sang and whistled. Until exhaustion they did so. Calming the great mountains in a sort of pilgrimage. The wharf roaches were indeed a great society within the Hollow Wyrm.

One day a wharf roach neared its death and sang a most foul tune, breaking the age old tradition of their species, singing upon its dying breath causing a great resonance within the hollowness.

It shrugged and a great many fell.

Upon the earth they found themselves blinded by the sun – much too bright than the milky moon they were used to. Forced into a nocturnal state the species hurried into the mountains. Mountains that reminded them of home. Home. Soon a legend of yore.

They had first appeared and soon began telling of the great twisting mountains of the world spine as their birthplace, rising from the ocean rather than falling from the sky. The wharf roaches hummed and whistled to each other in speech. Many were growing somewhat smaller than before for each generation. Only the great matriarchs remained a sizable monstrosity compared to the many smaller males. They were different from their kin on the earth in that they were intelligent, to some extent, they knew of much philosophy and astrology and astronomy, yet their bodies did not allow for much technological innovation. And so they remained scholar hermits writing on walls and singing songs to remember.

The wharf roaches lived in the lonely mountains of the world spine that reminded them of home, yet some would of course venture out on driftwood to inhabit neighbouring mountain ranges and their natural cavern systems.
